(There are no pics for this post, I am at work so I don't have my pics here...) So, Sunday was a normal day for us. We got up, got ready, went to church, picked up lunch. Olivia and I were sitting on the sofa enjoying our nuggets and she was falling asleep while eating so I knew she was EXHAUSTED. The previous week, Ms. Jane and Danyelle were here visiting...getting all that extra attention wears a girl out! So, Olivia finished up here lunch and it was off to change our diaper for our nap. Well, she was NOT happy about 1. having her diaper changed or 2. having to take a nap. So, she is squirming and fighting me, I was wearing a very slippery shirt...and I dropped her! I picked her up and she was doing that whole hold your breath in shock thing and then she screamed. Chad was already on his way down the hall to see what all the commotion was. I told him, and we said we would just watch her, but...once in the light we realized she was pale and her lips were turning blue. So, off to the car we went it such a frenzy I forgot my shoes!! I sat in the back seat (Olivia didn't get in her car seat, we were afraid to put her in there) with Olivia on my lap singing every
Gymboree song I could think of, asking all the questions...talking loudly, rolling down the windows, blowing in her face...you name it to keep her awake...it was SO
SCAREY! Chad was going 90 on I-49 with his hazards on. We were both nervous. I find it so interesting how mommies and daddies handle situations like this. Chad wanted it fixed and I wanted to protect. So amazing.
So, we get to the ER and I am still barefoot by the way...i get her all checked in she's still doing weird stuff. We wait in the room for what seemed like an eternity to see the
dr. The nurse told me to keep her awake...that was way easier said than done. The doctor finally came in to see us and said we would do a cat scan and he told us that it's an old wives tale about kiddos falling asleep after hitting their heads...the problem only comes when you can't wake them up...that went against EVERYTHING chad and I felt was right, so we let her fall asleep, but woke her every few minutes. The nurse gave her some
motrin and see napped. The Cat Scan was CRAZY she hated being confined....but the tech and daddy did a great job with her.
So, we got her to drink some apple juice and she didn't have any nausea or vomiting so the doctor was about to release us...she did in fact according to the
dr have a concussion.
All this time, Olivia had been complaining about her arm hurting. She would move quickly and she would burst into tears! I felt so badly for her. So, I told the doctor, he said it didn't impress him when he first checked her and she'd be fine. I said very firmly NO, something is wrong with her arm. So, they did an
xray (3 at first and then they had to do another because her head was turned) and the
xray tech told us that she did indeed have a broken collar bone! Their reports called it a green stick break, but at our follow up visit at our
pediatrician's she did another x-ray and said it was actually all the way broken. So, she will be wearing a sling and wrapped with an ace bandage to her side for 2 weeks....
She is a trooper! She just keeps on keeping on. We take
motrin 3 times a day keeping any swelling or pain at bay. We stopped at
Gymboree with Cheryl yesterday and she played...no pain....she's seriously a trooper!!
I"ll add some pics of her with her bandaged self when I get home!! Just wanted to give everyone the update. I can't type this long at home when she's awake because she likes to press the buttons and she wants my undivided attention all the time!!
